Red Dwarf movie coming in 2020

‘Red Dwarf’ is set to return with a two-hour feature film in 2020.
The cult sci-fi sitcom will be back on Dave next year with a full-length movie – penned and directed by co-creator Doug Naylor – with Craig Charles, Chris Barrie, Danny John-Jules and Robert Llewellyn reprising their respective role as Lister, Rimmer, The Cat and Kryten.
Craig said: "I’m really excited to get back on board with the boys from the Dwarf. I can’t wait to discuss Robert’s prostate problems, Chris Barrie’s hip replacement and have a proper look at Danny’s new dentures whilst they marvel at the agelessness of the Charles physique.
"I will surely require the services of a chiropractor after dragging these doddering misfits through what promises to be our most epic adventure yet."
Doug added: "I’m absolutely thrilled to have the opportunity of making more ‘Red Dwarf’.
"UKTV has been a never-ending source of support and encouragement since we first started working together ten years ago.
"Can’t wait to start shooting a format that I don’t think has ever been done before. Smoke me a kipper, we’re back and not just for breakfast."
The show first aired on BBC Two for eight series from 1988, and it was revived by Dave with three-part run ‘Red Dwarf: Back To Earth’ in 2009, before they ran another three seasons in 2012, 2016 and 2017.
With a new home on Dave, the channel has also commissioned three one-hour shows telling the story behind the classic comedy featuring previously unseen material alongside new interviews with the cast and crew.
Just last month, Doug suggested it could be time to hand over the ‘Red Dwarf’ universe to a new group of actors and writers so the programme can live on.
He said: "It’d be unusual not to do a reboot eventually. At that point I certainly wouldn’t be writing all the shows … but I’d love to be involved in some way."
