Rebel Wilson based her ‘Night At The Museum: Secret of the Tomb’ character on her friend Matt Lucas.
The Australian comedian lives with the ‘Alice in Wonderland’ star and has revealed his own personality and his ‘Little Britain’ comic creation Vicky Pollard inspired British museum night guard Tilly in the children’s film.
Speaking about Tilly’s accent and boorish behaviour, Rebel said: "I live with a great British comedian, Matt Lucas, and I tried to channel him a little bit, which is a bit cheeky. I loved being a little bit street as well, that’s just how I like to roll, like a gangster. So I really tried to bring that to the night guard, even though I don’t think that was really envisaged with a character like Tilly , that’s quite a posh name."
‘The Pitch Perfect’ actress also joked she got some advice on how to portray the character from Oscar winner Daniel Day Lewis – who is renowned for his method acting techniques.
Discussing how she prepared for the role, Rebel joked to BANG Showbiz: "I guarded a museum for 18 months, I spoke a lot to Daniel Day Lewis and he said if I wanted to win an Oscar I’d have to put in the hard yards."
Rebel walked the red carpet at the movie’s UK premiere in London on Monday night (15.12.14) and was joined by several of her co-stars including Ben Stiller – who is reprising his role as museum night guard Larry Daley for a third time – and his wife Christine Taylor, Sir Ben Kingsley, Owen Wilson, Dan Stevens and his wife Susie Hariet and Ricky Gervais who was accompanied by his partner Jane Fallon.
