Rebecca Ferguson would say ‘yes’ to Eurovision if she’s asked

Rebecca Ferguson would jump at the chance to represent the UK at Eurovision.

The former ‘X Factor’ star – who has just released her fifth album ‘Heaven Part II’ – performed a rousing duet of ‘Ordinary World’ by Duran Duran with Ukrainian star Alyosha at the semi-finals in her home city of Liverpool earlier this year, and she would love the opportunity to compete in the global song contest herself.

Speaking exclusively to BANG Showbiz, she said: “I said I would do it this year. People were tweeting whoever’s in charge saying we should get Rebecca to do it. I think it’d be a good laugh.”

However, the soul singer says major labels seem to have more of a say these days.

She said: “But I think it tends to be, I don’t know, whoever the major labels think will [stand a good chance].

“But if the phone rang, I probably would say yes.”

Sam Ryder came second to Ukraine at the 2022 contest with his huge hit ‘Space Man’ after he was chosen to represent the country by Tap Music – the company behind the careers of pop stars such as Dua Lipa and Ellie Goulding – who came on board to find a new act to represent the UK after James Newman received zero points for his song ‘Embers’ the previous year.

They then chose Mae Muller who entered with ‘I Wrote A Song’, however, it failed to impress, with the UK placing 25th with a lacklustre 24 points.

The UK has historically scored badly at Eurovision in recent years, excluding Sam’s victory.

The nation’s five winners are Sandie Shaw with ‘Puppet on a String’ (1967), Lulu with ‘Boom Bang-a-Bang’ (1969 in a four-way tie), Brotherhood of Man with ‘Save Your Kisses for Me’ (1976), Bucks Fizz with ‘Making Your Mind Up’ (1981) and Katrina and the Waves with ‘Love Shine a Light’ (1997).

Stream ‘Heaven Part II’ on all streaming platforms now and head to www.rebeccafergusonmusic.com/events to see where you can catch Rebecca live in 2024.
