Rami Malek celebrated with tequila shot after landing role

Rami Malek had a "shot of tequila" after landing the iconic role of Freddie Mercury in ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’.
The 37-year-old actor – who plays the late singer in the Bryan Singer-directed drama – has revealed he needed to calm his nerves with an alcoholic "shot" when he auditioned for the part in front of Queen legends Brian May and Roger Taylor.
Speaking to Mr Porter, Rami said: "We had a glass of wine and shot the s**t, and I could see them looking me up and down
"Then they’re like, ‘Well, maybe we should watch this video [of his performance audition]?’ I thought they’d seen it already! So they’re watching it on a laptop, and I’m standing there with them with my heart just beating out of my chest."
Rami confessed that the Queen guitarist thought his resemblance to the ‘Don’t Stop Me Now’ frontman was "uncanny" and explained to him what the singer was really like in person.
Rami added: "Brian May was really sweet. I think he was taken aback. He used the word ‘uncanny’. We went to Roger’s bar in the house and had a shot of tequila. That’s when I thought, ‘OK, I have this part.’ They talk about his kindness, how collaborative he was, and how much of a peacemaker when Roger and Brian got into squabbles. They said he was reserved at times, but on other days very bombastic. Childlike, too. But it’s also the way they speak about him. There’s real reverence."
