Raheem Sterling gets Gold Blue Peter badge

Raheem Sterling has joked he will "call it a day" on his Champions League ambitions after landing a Gold ‘Blue Peter’ badge.
The Manchester City and England footballer has been given the CBBC show’s highest honour in recognition of his incredible performances on the pitch and his inspiring work off it.
Presenting the coveted award, ‘Blue Peter’ host Richie Driss told the sportsman: "Raheem, clearly we think you are amazing. You are a role model, not only for Manchester City fans but also to all of our fans across the UK.
"You’re an inspiration not only on the pitch but also off the pitch with your willingness to stand up for people’s rights.
"So with that in mind it would be an absolute honour to award you our highest accolade … the Blue Peter Gold badge."
Raheem – who follows in the footsteps of Three Lions legend David Beckham by being awarded the special honour – responded: "Thank you very much, it means a lot."
The presenter joked that being given the Gold badge – of which only a handful are handed out each year – meant the footballer no longer needs "to focus on winning the Champions League".
The 24-year-old star quipped: "Yes I think I will settle for this and call it a day!"
By earning this recognition, he joins a select group of people to receive the top prize, including Queen Elizabeth II, Sir David Attenborough, JK Rowling, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Steven Spielberg, Ed Sheeran, Madonna and Sir Paul McCartney.
Raheem’s episode of ‘Blue Peter’ – which sees him chat to young fans Lutae and Jazmin about his dreams of being a footballer, overcoming adversity, and more – airs today (17.10.19) at 5.30pm on CBBC.
