Queen honoured with stained glass window

Queen Elizabeth will honoured with a stained glass window by British painter David Hockney.
The 90-year-old royal will have her very own mural at Westminster Abbey in London it was announced on Wednesday (23.11.16).
The 20ft x 6ft work of art will be known as The Queen’s Window.
David said: "I have planned a landscape full of blossom that’s a celebration every year."
According to the Daily Telegraph newspaper, Mr Hockney and the Abbey will be in charge of the piece.
However, the artwork won’t be installed until mid-2018 when the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Galleries will open in a brand new space above the Abbey.
A spokesperson has said David was the "most appropriate choice" for the task as he has
"been awarded the Order of Merit by the Queen".
They said: "We’re as interested as everyone else to see what he comes up with.
"The Queen is certainly aware of the proposal and there will be continual briefings from us."
Prior to agreeing to do the stained glass window, David turned down the chance to paint the queen in 2011.
At the time, he said: "When I was asked, I told them I was very busy painting England actually. Her country."
