Queen Elizabeth watches Great British Bake Off

Nadiya Hussain believes Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip are fans of the ‘Great British Bake Off’.
The 31-year-old mother-of-three – who won the last series of the BBC baking contest – was chosen to make the monarch’s 90th birthday cake and the Duke of Edinburgh needed no introduction to Nadiya when she presented them with the sweet treat.
Nadiya said: "When the queen introduced me to Prince Philip while I was presenting the cake to them, he said, ‘Yes I know who she is – but what flavour is the cake?’ so I believe they do watch ‘GBBO’.
"I’d done a lemon drizzle for Mary [Berry] so I figured why not an orange drizzle for the queen. She took away the top tier and I like to imagine her in her slippers having a slice."
Despite her success since winning the show, the occasional ‘Loose Women’ panellist can’t help but feel envious of the new batch of contestants who will be entering the ‘Bake Off’ tent later this year.
Asked what advice she’d give contestants, she said: "Practice, practice, practice. I’m slightly jealous of the new contestants actually, I want to be back in that tent."
Nadiya – who has sons Musa, nine, and Dawud, eight, and daughter Maryam with husband Abdal – entered the show in order to find herself and now hopes she can be a good role model to other mothers.
She told OK! magazine: "I was at home with the kids for 10 years and I felt I’d lost myself in the midst of being a wife and a mother. I wanted to do something just for me and my husband suggested ‘Bake Off’…
"I’m not perfect – the most important people I want to be a role model for are my children.
"But when mums tell me I’ve inspired them to do something for themselves, that’s amazing."
