Britain’s Queen Elizabeth visited sick horses yesterday (29.04.14).
The 88-year-old monarch’s royal blue outfit came close to being nibbled by one of the animals, named Teaforthree, as she toured the Cotts Farm Equine Hospital in Narbeth, Wales, in the company of the centre’s director Richard Coomer.
As she toured the facility and met with staff and the animals, the queen examined the operating theatres and an x-ray machine, and was shown a video of equestrian surgery on a large projector.
The facility is the only equine veterinary hospital in Wales, and has thousands of registered patients in West Wales.
The staff – which include two full-time specialists, one in internal medicine and the other in surgery – provide first opinion work and emergency services, and also offer a round-the-clock referral service to patients from further afield, and have even helped horses from as far away as Southern Ireland.
The hospital boasts treatment facilities including a modern operating theatre suite, an x-ray machine and safe stable housing.
Additionally, ambulatory vets are out on the road to bring sick horses into the facility.
