Britain’s Queen Elizabeth will officially open a new free school today (28.11.14).
The 88-year-old monarch and her husband Prince Philip will be given a tour of Holyport College near Maidenhead, Berkshire, South East England, before unveiling a plaque in front of 122 pupils, staff members and parents.
The school is state funded, providing free daytime education, but parents can pay £3,850 a term for boarders.
Though there are currently 122 students aged between 11 to 19, the school is able to accommodate 500 pupils, including 225 boarders.
The establishment – which is free from council control – was first proposed in 2012 and opened its doors for the first time in September.
The school is sponsored by Eton College – a public school where a number of members of the royal family have been educated – and students have access to some of their facilities.
Eton headmaster Tony Little previously spoke of his pride in the scheme.
He said: "I am not concerned what the model is.
"This is using a practical route to create something that I believe in and which is of great value to young people."
