Queen Elizabeth sends prayers to Mexico earthquake victims

Queen Elizabeth has sent her "thoughts and prayers" to those affected by the devastating earthquake which struck Mexico this week.
The 91-year-old monarch has said she is "deeply saddened" by the news of the 7.1 magnitude quake that hit the country’s capital Mexico City earlier this week, and has sent her "condolences" to the families of the 225 people who have been killed by the natural disaster.
In a message sent to the President of Mexico Enrique Peña Nieto and published on official website for the Royal Family, she wrote: "I was deeply saddened to learn of the loss of life and the devastation following the terrible earthquake yesterday in Mexico.
"That it happened so soon after the powerful earthquake that hit southern Mexico less than two weeks ago is all the more concerning.
"Prince Philip and I send our sincere condolences to the victims of this disaster, to those who have lost loved ones, and to those who have seen their homes and property destroyed.
"My thoughts and prayers are with those affected.
"Elizabeth R."
The Queen’s statement comes after she released a similar message of condolence to those affected by Hurricane Harvey which hit the US state of Texas last month.
She said at the time: "I was deeply saddened to learn of the loss of life and the devastation following the recent terrible floods caused by Hurricane Harvey.
"Prince Philip and I send our sincere condolences to the victims of this disaster, to those who have lost loved ones, and to those who have seen their homes and property destroyed. My thoughts and prayers are with those affected.
"Elizabeth R."
Meanwhile, celebrities such as actress Salma Hayek and Formula 1 racer Sergio Perez have donated generously to charities aimed at helping those who have been affected by the disaster, whilst singer Shakira has urged her fans to give what they can to the cause.
