A selection of Queen Elizabeth’s outfits are to go on display at Buckingham Palace and Windsor Castle.
The exhibition, titled Fashioning a Reign: 90 Years of Style from The Queen’s Wardrobe, will feature the monarch’s wares from several big occasions, including official portraits, family weddings and state visits.
The display is to mark the queen’s 90th birthday year and the clothes on show at Buckingham Palace coincides with the building’s State Rooms being open to the public this summer.
Elizabeth is known to be a big horse racing fan and some of the outfits featured include a riding jacket, jodhpurs and a riding hat made for her when she was known as Princess Elizabeth in 1947.
One piece which will no doubt prove popular with visitors to the royal residence is a turquoise dress she wore for an official portrait in Buckingham Palace’s White Drawing Room.
The artwork was carried out by Cecil Beaton in 1968.
Some of the queen’s wares have already gone on display this year at the Palace of Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh as part of 150 outfits exhibited in the three venues.
Another turquoise dress worn by the monarch eight years earlier will also go on display.
Elizabeth donned the outfit for the wedding of her sister Princess Margaret and Antony Armstrong-Jones in May 1960.
Norman Hartnell, who created Margaret’s wedding dress, designed the piece.
