Queen Elizabeth marks King’s Troop’s 70th anniversary

Queen Elizabeth attended the 70th anniversary of the King’s Troop Royal Horse Artillery in London yesterday (19.10.17).
The 91-year-old monarch – who is Captain General of The King’s Troop – was all smiles at the event at London’s Hyde Park to mark the special day and pay tribute to the Troop, who are known for firing gun salutes at special occasions.
A series of tweets on the official Royal Family Twitter account read: "The Queen, as Captain General, is today reviewing The King’s Troop Royal Horse Artillery (KTRHA) on occasion of their 70th Anniversary.
"Previously known as the ‘Riding’ Troop, the KTRHA became the Kings Troop on the wishes of King George VI in October 1947."
The Kings Troop – who are also known as the Gunners – took part in a "fantastic" parade in Hyde Park to mark their 70th anniversary.
The Royal Family tweeted: "The Queen arrives at Hyde Park for the Parade & takes the Royal Salute.
"Her Majesty then inspects the @KingsTroopRHA as part of their 70th anniversary celebrations.
"The Queen watches on as the Troop put on a fantastic display for today’s anniversary parade."
Following the parade, Elizabeth rubbed shoulders with several soldiers and veterans.
The Royal Family tweeted: "At a reception The Queen meets KTRHA soldiers & veterans, including Percy Austen who serving when George VI inspected the Parade in 1947."
Elizabeth previously declared the name The King’s Troop would remain in place after her accession to the throne in tribute to her late father, King George VI.
The Gunners performed salutes at both the funerals of King George VI and Sir Winston Churchill.
