Queen Elizabeth hosts minute’s silence for Manchester

Queen Elizabeth held a minute’s silence at her garden party at Buckingham Palace on Tuesday (23.05.17) for the victims of the Manchester terrorist attack.
The 91-year-old royal said she and the royal family along with the rest of the world were "shocked" to learn of the horrific event, which saw 22 people killed and more than 50 injured at Ariana Grande’s show at Manchester Arena on Monday night (22.05.17).
The British monarch was joined by her husband Prince Philip, their son Prince Charles and his wife the Duchess of Cornwall, and her granddaughter Princess Eugenie and 8,000 guests as they paid her respects.
Chris Rowe and his wife Antonella – who grew up in Manchester – said the queen was right not to cancel the event amid the attack.
Mr. Rowe said: "We were worried it was going to be cancelled but it’s the sort of thing that shouldn’t be cancelled."
Earlier in the day, Elizabeth released a statement in which she sent her "deepest sympathy" to those who lost their lives and were affected by the atrocity.
She said: "The whole nation has been shocked by the death and injury in Manchester last night of so many people, adults and children, who had just been enjoying a concert. I know I speak for everyone in expressing my deepest sympathy to all who have been affected by this dreadful event and especially to the families and friends of those who have died or were injured."
She also praised the "professionalism and care" of the emergency services who responded quickly and the people of the northern English city for their "humanity and compassion".
