Queen Elizabeth attends event at Abbey

Britain’s Queen Elizabeth took part in an ancient installation ceremony at Westminster Abbey today (09.05.14).

The 88-year-old royal attended the event for knights of the Order of the Bath and tackled a challenging flight of stairs to the Abbey’s The Lady Chapel of King Henry VII, despite worries she wouldn’t be able to climb some steps in the Chapel.

According to the Daily Telegraph, the royal also managed the six steps to her stall without any problems, unlike one elderly knight who stumbled on his way up a similar flight of steps.

The Order of the Bath is the fourth most senior order of chivalry, comprising knights, dames and companions of the Bath.

Although the Queen was fine throughout the hour-long ceremony one of the elderly Gentleman at Arms, who was standing guard, fainted as the congregation finished singing the National Anthem towards the end of the service.

Red Cross volunteers on duty ran to his aid in the Abbey and he was taken to hospital in an ambulance.
