Pulp releasing documentary and live album

Pulp are releasing a documentary charting their rise to fame and a live album recorded at their London shows last year.

Frontman Jarvis Cocker narrates the film – titled Pulp: What Do You Do For An Encore? – which is directed by Garth Jennings and charts the group’s rise to fame using “never-seen-before archival material” while also giving a behind-the-scenes look at the band’s 2025 More tour.

A description of the feature-length film states: “It fuses the brilliantly choreographed stage spectacle of Pulp’s biggest ever arena show – part of the global tour for More, the band’s first album in 24 years – with four decades of colourful, never-seen-before archival material …

“[It’s] a vibrant tribute to a band of brilliant misfits, whose unique blend of irony, rebellion, and razor-sharp social commentary resonated with generations of listeners and helped define an era of British culture”.

Jennings previously worked with Pulp directing their music videos for 1997 track Help The Aged and 1988’s A Little Soul.

A release date for Pulp: What Do You Do For An Encore? has yet to be set, but the band’s live album – title Live! – is going to drop on August 28.

The album was recorded during Pulp’s shows at London’s O2 Arena in June 2025.

Jarvis said of the project: “A concert is an event where songs come back to life. That’s why this album is called Live! It’s both a statement of fact (it’s a recording of a live band) and a challenge (come on! Everyone come alive!).”

More was Pulp’s first studio album since they released We Love Life in 2001.

When asked if fans can expect more new music from the band, Jarvis previously hinted there could be more to come, telling NME: “Maybe. We tried to not have a concept for this record or think: ‘This is it, this is our last gas’. I used to think that a lot.

“I had this weird thing that when an album was mixed and finished where I’d think: ‘Oh, I can die now and it would be OK’. That’s a terrible way to think about your life, really. I didn’t feel that with this record [More].”
