Gurlaine Kaur Garcha and Priya Davdra hope their ‘EastEnders’ bisexual storyline will "open doors" for people in a similar situation.
Priya stars as Iqra Ahmed in the BBC Soap and Gurlaine appears as her girlfriend Ash Kaur, and the pair are keen for their characters’ relationship to give people "more confidence in coming out".
Gurlaine said: "Ash is bisexual and she’s a Sikh.
"I think her story will open doors for people in a similar situation.
"Hopefully it will help them have more confidence in coming out."
Priya added: "The same for Iqra, who is Muslim.
"So many people have said it’s great to see this story on a platform such as ‘EastEnders’, which is amazing."
The pair are also hoping their characters will continue to be in love in 2020, and they could soon have a little four-legged friend to accompany them.
Priya said: "They’re so in love, and I just hope that carries on.
"I think they can go the distance."
Speaking in a joint interview with Inside Soap magazine, Gurlaine added: "They’re so strong to have got through what they already have.
"I want them to get a dog – my Cady is available if she’s needed."
Priya recently admitted that while she hopes the couple are still together by Christmas, she knows Albert Square is never short of unexpected moments.
She added: "I would like to be kissing under the mistletoe but it is ‘EastEnders’ so you never know."
