Princess Eugenie named royal patron of Scoliosis Association UK.

Princess Eugenie is now the Royal Patron of the Scoliosis Association UK.

The 30-year-old royal was announced as the patron of the association – which provides support and information to those affected by scoliosis – on Thursday (15.10.20), through a tweet posted by the charity.

The tweet read: “We are pleased to announce that Her Royal Highness Princess Eugenie has agreed to become the Royal Patron of the Scoliosis Association UK.”

The cause is particularly close to Eugenie’s heart, as she underwent surgery for scoliosis – a disorder that causes an abnormal curve of the spine – at age 12.

Stephanie Clark, co-founder and chair of SAUK, added in a statement: “I am absolutely delighted and grateful that Princess Eugenie is to be our Royal Patron. Her bravery and experience makes this a very personal decision, and will continue to offer encouragement to the many people of all ages who are struggling to come to terms with their scoliosis.”

Eugenie marked International Scoliosis Awareness Day in June when she posted a close-up image of her scar onto Instagram, asking other people to share their scars too.

She wrote at the time: “Today is International Scoliosis Awareness Day. I just wanted to share my scar and encourage anyone out there who’s gone through something similar to share theirs with me. Let’s be proud of our scars! I’d love to repost any of your images on my stories so please tag me and I will share. #internationalscoliosisawarenessday. (sic)”

And the beauty even proudly displayed her scar on her wedding day in 2018, when she tied the knot with Jack Brooksbank whilst wearing a low-backed wedding dress and no veil.

Speaking about the dress, she previously said: “I had always wanted a low back – part of it was showing my scar and I believe scars tell a story about your past and your future, and it’s a way of getting rid of a taboo.

“For me, it’s a way of communicating with people who are going through either similar situations with scoliosis or having a scar of their own that they are trying to deal with …

“We started getting a lot of letters from people who were happy that I had stood up and showed my scar, and people with scoliosis, letters from girls that are going through the same thing and I definitely was very touched by everyone’s support.”
