Princess Anne praises scientists at Scottish conference

Britain’s Princess Anne has praised scientists working to prevent livestock disease.

The Princess Royal, a keen animal lover and patron of many farming organisations, attended the Moredun Research Institute near Edinburgh, Scotland, last week for a conference about the prevention and control of disease in livestock.

Anne – who is Patron of the Moredun Foundation, a charity that works for high standards in animal health and welfare – joined 100 delegates from the agricultural, veterinary and research sectors at the special event, according to Scotland Food & Drink.

Princess Anne praised Moredun’s scientists for their work during her speech, saying: "Education, communication and learning from each other is vital to enable the livestock industry across the world to become more resilient and adaptive to the challenges we currently face and will no doubt face in the future

"Due to the changing climate, competing pressures for land use and a growing global population, the production of safe, nutritious and sustainable food supplies is really important. Moredun’s research to improve the health and welfare of livestock is as relevant today as it ever was."

Anne also visited the University of Edinburgh to open the Shirley Laboratories at the Hugh Robson Link Building during her visit to Scotland.
