Britain’s Princess Royal marked the opening of a new Army headquarters in Stafford yesterday (14.10.15).
Princess Anne visited the site – which has undergone £150 million worth of work to redevelop the site for soldiers and their families – to officially open the camp and unveil a plaque, ITV News reports.
The trip marked the 65-year-old royal’s first visit to the Beacon Barracks since it welcomed more than 1,000 troops from the 1st and 16th Signal Regiments who recently returned from their post in Germany.
Princess Anne has visited the Staffordshire military base just once before despite being named Colonel-In-Chief to the Corps in 1982.
During her tour of the new facilities, HRH also unveiled a plaque to the new Regimental Headquarters of 1st Signal Regiment and officially opened the new Ministry of Defence Stafford Combined Mess.
Anne – who is the only daughter of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip – also presented medals to seven soldiers including four who served in Sierra Leone following the outbreak of the Ebola virus.
