Princess Anne meets with IOC in Peru

Princess Anne has visited Peru for a meeting with the International Olympic Committee.
The 67-year-old royal made a trip to the Peruvian capital of Lima to attend the IOC session in which eight new members were elected to the committee – of which Anne is a member – and saw the next two summer games awarded to the cities of Paris, France, in 2024, and Los Angeles, California, in 2028.
The Princess Royal has been a member of the IOC since 1988, and regularly attends the Olympic Games, which are held every four years in a different country each time.
Princess Anne has also previously competed in the Olympic Games, taking part in the horse riding event at the 1976 Montreal games on her mother Queen Elizabeth’s horse Goodwill.
Whilst in Peru, Anne was hosted by the British Ambassador to Peru Anwar Choudhury, and attended a #FoodisGreat dinner, where British dishes were served with a unique Peruvian twist.
The Princess Royal also attended a reception hosted by The Vine Trust – a charity which tackles severe poverty in Tanzania and Peru, and of which Anne is the royal patron – where she spoke about the charity’s Amazon Hope Medical Project in Peru, which provides basic health and dental care to over 160 remote communities in the Peruvian Amazon.
And that’s not all the Princess got up to on her visit to the South American country either, as she also paid a visit to the International Potato Center’s new gene bank in Lima to see how scientists there are working to end world hunger.
The International Potato Center is a non-profit organisation which was founded in 1971 as a root and tuber research-for-development institution, and aims to deliver sustainable solutions to the pressing world problems of hunger, poverty, and the degradation of natural resources.
