Prince William joins The Queen for Knights of the Thistle ceremony

Prince William joined the Queen at the Knights of the Thistle ceremony in Edinburgh yesterday(03.07.14).

The 32-year-old royal supported his 88-year-old grandmother – Queen Elizabeth II – as she took part in the historical ceremony that honours men or women who have held public office or made a significant contribution to national life.

The monarch was also joined by Princess Anne and Prince Philip as they made their way down the Royal Mile prior to the service from the Scottish capital’s Signet Library to St Giles’ Cathedral, where they were greeted by a mounted guard of honour, reports Hello magazine.

This year’s ceremony recognised Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games chairman Lord Smith of Kelvin and the former Coutts bank chairman the Earl of Home as Knights of the Thistle – Scotland’s highest national honour.

Following the service the Queen made her way to her official Scottish residence Hollyrood Palace, where she hosted a lunch and reception.

The group later attended the opening of a new memorial garden in the castle grounds where the monarch unveiled a plaque – comprised of metals donated by the armed forces – to mark the centenary of World War One.
