Prince William and Duchess Catherine leave Australia

Britain’s Prince William, Duchess Catherine and Prince George have left Australia.

The royal family – who have been on a whirlwind 11-day tour Down Under – flew home from Canberra today (25.04.14) on a Royal Australian Air Force plane.

Prince William, 31, and Catherine, 32, offered a wave to a line of well-wishers who turned up at the airport to see them off.

Among the Australians who waved goodbye were prime minister Tony Abbott, opposition leader Bill Shorten, the governor general Sir Peter Cosgrove and ACT chief minister Katy Gallagher.

According to The Guardian newspaper, the polite royals also expressed their gratitude to the police escorts who have kept a watchful eye over them for the duration of their trip.

Prince William and Catherine were both dressed in the same clothes they wore to attend the Anzac Day proceedings in Canberra earlier in the day, while adorable Prince George – who turned nine months old while in Australia – was seen in a bright red sweater.

The royal tour of Australia and New Zealand has been considered a huge success by officials, who put together a bustling itinerary for the family, including a visit to Manly beach in Sydney, a trip to the iconic Uluru, and a reception held at Government House in their honour.
