Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall’s royal visit to Stratford

The Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall will visit Stratford next weekend for the 400th anniversary of William Shakespeare’s death.
On Saturday (23.04.16), Prince Charles and Camilla will be guided around Shakespeare’s New Place, which was the ‘Romeo and Juliet’ playwright’s home for almost two decades.
Afterwards the royal couple will be treated to a performance by the Combat Veterans Players who will act out an extract from ‘Richard III’.
They will then get taken around the Holy Trinity Church where Shakespeare’s grave is situated and will be greeted by members of the congregations, the choir and volunteers.
His Royal Highness and the Duchess will then witness ‘Shakespeare Live!’, presented by former ‘Doctor Who’ star David Tennant, at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre.
He will be joined by a host of celebrated Shakespearean actors such as Dame Helen Mirren, Benedict Cumberbatch, Dame Judi Dench and best-selling author Sir Ian McKellen.
The performance will be broadcast live on BBC Two at 8.30pm.
The Prince and Duchess will attend the pre-show and will get to meet the cast.
Charles is massive Shakespeare fan and loves the late writer’s ability to "conjure complex characters".
He previously said: "To read great writers is to open a window on a world of experience and wisdom. Shakespeare is perhaps the master, with his unending capacity to conjure complex characters or the visceral sense of riot and revolution, strife or love in words that illuminate brilliantly every facet of what it is to be human. His words can change lives."
