Belgium’s Prince Laurent has been taken out of a medically-induced coma.
The 50-year-old royal was rushed to hospital last week after coming down with pneumonia and volunteered himself for an artificial coma two days ago.
However, he has now come out of the coma as his condition has improved.
Royal spokesperson said Prince Laurent – younger brother of King Philippe – is a in a "stable" condition.
Laurent is doing significantly better since being admitted to Cliniques Universitaires Saint-Luc hospital in Brussels and doctors are now encouraging him to eat.
Doctors placed him in an artificial coma in order to improve his condition by giving him antibiotics.
Belgian TV channel RTL said: "An artificial coma would avoid the patient exhausting themselves by fighting against the life-support system."
Laurent’s wife Princess Claire – who was born in Bath, England – has been by his side throughout the ordeal.
The couple have a 10-year-old daughter, Princess Louise, and nine-year-old twin sons, Prince Nicolas and Prince Aymeric.
King Philippe visited his brother on Monday (24.03.14) and Queen Mathilde visited on Tuesday (25.03.14).
