Prince Harry’s Europe itinerary released


Britain’s Prince Harry will meet World War II veterans on his official visit to Estonia and Italy.

The 29-year-old prince will also speak with serving military personnel and competitors for the Invictus Games – a Paralympic-style competition for wounded servicemen and women that Harry has organised to take place in London later this year – during his European trip on 16-19 May.

On his first day Harry will lay a wreath at the monument to the War of Independence in Freedom Square in Tallinn, before going on to attend a reception at the Estonian Parliament, where he will meet Invictus Games competitors and local ministers and MPs.

The following day, Harry – an army captain – will visit the Estonian Defence Forces at their annual military exercise Kevadtorm with the country’s president Toomas Hendrik Ilves and his is scheduled to address them to thank them for their work with UK troops in Afghanistan since 2006.

His Italian visit will see the prince attending a number of events in relation to World War II, focussing on the 70th anniversary of the Battles of Monte Cassino in the first five months of 1944.

He will first lay a wreath at the Polish commemoration service and will then visit the Abbey of Monte Cassino to meet with wounded Italian veterans, including Invictus Games competitors.

Before heading back to Rome for an event at the MAXXI National Museum of Contemporary Arts, Harry will lay a wreath at the New Zealand commemoration service at the Cassino Commonwealth War Cemetery.

His final day of the tour will end with another visit to the Cassino cemetery, when he will attend the British Service of Remembrance and meet veterans who fought at Cassino and elsewhere during the Italian Campaign.
