Prince Harry’s car fails to sell

A car once owned by Britain’s Prince Harry has failed to sell.

Car dealer Baron Cole paid £37,500 in February for a black RS3 Audi hatchback – nearly £2,000 more than its list price – and hoped to use its royal connection to sell it on for £40,000, but with the rush of buyers he anticipated failing to materialise, he has now sold it to another dealer for the price he originally paid.

Mr. Cole said: "Audi made no secret of the fact it was Prince Harry’s car. It was even announced as such at the Audi UK auction.

"It was bought at auction by an Audi dealer in Stafford who I bought it after they confirmed in an e-mail that it had been a ‘Royal Car’ which had been used by Prince Harry."

The trader – who previously sold three former royal vehicles, two Land Rovers and a Jaguar – thinks the vehicle was too basic to attract buyers.

He explained to the Daily Express newspaper: "I thought it would have loads of added extras, but actually it was very low spec.

"The only extra thing Harry had was privacy glass. I came to the conclusion that people would rather buy a higher spec car driven by Joe Bloggs than a low spec one driven by Prince Harry."

The royals lease their cars from Audi at a rumoured 60 per cent discount, but their names never appear on registration documents, so the word of the manufacturer is the only thing that can authenticate their previous prestigious owners.

An Audi spokesperson said: "The dealer should not have passed this information on to the customer. That is against company policy".
