Prince Harry reduced to tears after US marine gives him name tag

Britain’s Prince Harry was reduced to tears when a wounded US marine gave him a name tag belonging to her late friend.

The 31-year-old royal was overcome with emotion when Kirstie Ennis handed him the keepsake at Buckingham Palace in London on Sunday (01.11.15) after she completed her 1000-mile marathon trek around Britain.

Clearly struggling for words, Harry refused to take the precious memento, saying: "No I can’t, I can’t accept this."

Kirstie replied with tears rolling down her face: "Please, you know what this means to me, I want you to."

The silver name tag belonged to her former colleague Corporal Baune, from Minnesota, who died in Helmand Province in 2012 after his unit was hit by blast from an IED.

Kirstie, 24 – who was badly injured in 2012 when her helicopter crashed in Afghanistan – had left 24 other name tags belonging to late armed forces officers around the UK when she took part in the walk with fellow US Marine Andrew Bement and four British ex-servicemen.

Speaking to reporters after the marathon, she said: "Harry was reluctant to accept it at first because he knows how much it means [to me]. He has helped me lay a couple of them and was hesitant to take them as he knows how much it means to me. I told him he had to."
