Prince Harry rallies support for Invictus Games

Prince Harry urged Londoners to support the Invictus Games for "inspirational" injured servicemen and women.

The young royal is backing the games which will place in England’s capital between September 10 – 14 and have more than 400 competitors who made a personal sacrifice from 14 nations use the sport to encourage recovery and rehabilitation.

People will compete in nine adaptive sports in venues on Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park and Harry wants the public cheering them on.

He said: "Ultimately, this is about the men and women who have given so much and deserve our support, in their recovery, rehabilitation and on leaving the armed forces.

"In September the public has the chance to show that support in the sporting arena, where the same grit and determination that characterises these tenacious men and women and their inspirational journeys of recovery — their invictus spirit — will make for a great occasion.

"I know people will want to join me in cheering them on from the sidelines."

Adventurer and paracyclist Jaco Van Gass, who trekked to the North Pole with the prince in 2011, gushed about the 29-year-old royal’s passion for helping the wounded

He told the Evening Standard newspaper: "Prince Harry is fantastic guy. His passion and love is indescribable.

"He really cares for the wounded and the people who served around him. It’s the reason we are hosting the Games, it’s all his idea, it’s all his brainchild. He’s the driving force behind it all."

Tickets for the Invictus Games go on sale on May 16.
