Prince George and Princess Charlotte invoke popularity in monikers

Prince George and Princess Charlotte have led to a rise in the popularity of their monikers, according to new data.
The two royal tots – who are the children of Prince William and his wife Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge – have seemingly had a hand in altering the popularity of their monikers, after new data from the Office for National Statistics shows both George and Charlotte have risen up the ranks since being bestowed upon the royal babies.
The name George placed third on the list of most popular boys’ names, with the four-year-old royal sharing his moniker with 5,263 babies born in the UK in 2016.
Charlotte, meanwhile, proved slightly less popular on the list of girls’ names, coming in at number 12. However, thanks to two-year-old Princess Charlotte, the moniker was one of the highest climbing names of 2016, with 2,596 baby girls sharing the title.
Siobhan Freegard, founder of parenting site ChannelMum.com said: "Royal names are still ruling with George in third place for boys and Charlotte climbing 13 places in a year, following the birth of the new Princess."
It isn’t just the royal tots who new babies take after either, as their father Prince William – who is expecting his third child with his spouse – and their uncle Prince Harry both saw their names reach the top 20 too.
For 33-year-old Harry, his moniker beat his nephew’s by just 21 tots, coming in second place with an impressive 5,284 babies having been given the name.
Prince William’s name just missed out on the top 10, however, with the 35-year-old sharing his moniker with 3,819 baby boys, and three baby girls, putting him in 11th place.
