Prince Charles’ wedding cake auctioned off

A piece of cake from Prince Charles’ wedding to the late Princess Diana is to be auctioned off.

The slice of fruitcake is one of five pieces of sponge from royal weddings which will go under the hammer at Julien’s Auctions, in Beverly Hills, on June 27.

The small slice from the couple’s 1981 nuptials is expected to fetch around £1,300, with another piece of cake from the heir apparent’s wedding to his current wife the Duchess of Cornwall in 2005 set to fetch around £390.

A brandy-infused sponge from his son Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge’s wedding in 2011 will also be auctioned off .

The cake – which is presented in a red box with a decorative C and W intertwined under a crown – is expected to achieve £520, according to the Daily Telegraph newspaper.

Julien’s Auctions president, Darren Julien – who is currently showcasing the cakes at The Stafford London hotel – said: "The Stafford London’s location is ideal for Royal fans and this celebration of Royal Wedding Cakes through the years highlights the everlasting design of each cake, inspired by the bride and groom and period of each wedding.

"We look forward to a successful showcase in London and exciting auction in Beverly Hills."

Slices of cake from Princess Anne’s 1973 wedding to Captain Mark Phillips and Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson’s wedding in 1986 will also go on sale.
