Prince Charles visits students in Washington

Prince Charles went to visit a class of students learning English while in Washington DC on Thursday (19.03.15).

The British heir-to-the-throne and his wife Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, are on a three-day visit to the US and stopped by the Carlos Rosario Public Charter School where they witnessed Spanish-speaking and Ethiopian immigrants learning the language.

As he entered the classroom, Charles said: "Sorry, I’ve come to ruin your session."

As he and Camilla arrived at the school, the couple were greeted by a mariachi band playing traditional Mexican music and a throng of well-wishers all hoping to catch a glimpse of the prince and his spouse.

The education facility is named after Puerto Rico-born Carlos Rosario who went to Washington DC to work with the federal government and started various programmes to help the city’s Latino residents.

As well as English lessons, the Carlos Rosario Public Charter School also supplies job training and helps adult immigrants become US Citizens.

Also on Thursday (19.03.15), Charles and Camilla visited the Armed Forces Retirement Home in the city.

While meeting military veterans, Charles tried his hand at ten pin bowling and managed to knock down four pins, and seemed delighted with his effort after admitting beforehand that he hadn’t tried the sport for a "long time".

The couple also met with President Barack Obama at the White House on Thursday and will conclude their short American adventure with a trip to Kentucky on Friday (20.03.15).
