Prince Charles praised by President Obama

Prince Charles was told by President Barack Obama that he was more popular in the US than American politicians when they met on Thursday (19.03.15).

The heir-to-the-British throne met with the president at the White House and as they chatted informally in the Oval Office, Obama expressed the love American citizens have for Charles and the rest of the royal family.

He said: "I think it’s fair to say that the American people are quite fond of the royal family."

To which Charles replied: "That’s awfully nice to know."

Obama then added: "They like them much better than they like their own politicians."

Charles then said: "I don’t believe that."

The 66-year-old prince and the political leader then went on to discuss the royal’s tour of Mount Vernon, the home of America’s first president, George Washington.

Charles was joined by his wife Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, and Vice President Joe Biden also sat with the trio.

Numerous journalists and photographers were allowed in the room to document parts of their informal chat and at one stage Charles pointed out The Sun’s veteran royal photographer Arthur Edwards to Obama, 53, telling him the snapper had been photographing him for 35 years.

He also revealed the first president Edwards had photographed was Ronald Reagan, to which Obama said "awesome".

Obama is the sixth American president Charles has met in his lifetime during his 23 trips to the States.

Charles and Camilla are currently on a three-day visit to the country and are heading to Kentucky today (20.03.15) after spending two days in Washington DC.
