Prince Charles marks St David’s Day with Welsh visit

Britain’s Prince Charles is visiting Wales to mark St David’s Day (01.03.14).

The royal will tour Pembrokeshire, Carmarthenshire and Merthyr Tydfil to coincide with the celebrations honouring the patron saint of Wales.

Charles, whose official title is the Prince of Wales, is due to kick of his visit today (28.02.14) with a trip to C Squadron, 1st Queen’s Dragoon Guards at Castlemartin Range Complex in South Pembrokeshire to chat to troops who are training for future operations and meet The Welsh Cavalry.

His next stop will be Llanelly House, a 18th century Georgian Town House in Llanelli, where he will discover how a 10-year restoration project saved the building from dereliction.

Charles is expected to meet with members of the Llanelly House Working Group and be talked through the renovation process.

Following an afternoon tea with the Carmarthenshire Heritage Regeneration Trust, the 65-year-old heir will head to the Old Town Hall in Merthyr Tydfil, which re-opens to the public as a creative industries hub on St David’s Day.

He is then off to visit the Dowlais Theatre to explore new facilities, where students from the Merthyr Tydfil College are going to be rehearsing and will unveil a plaque before his departure.
