Britain’s Prince Charles has reportedly likened Vladimir Putin to Adolf Hitler.
The Prince of Wales is currently on a four-day tour of Canada and while meeting with members of the public at a reception for World War II veterans and their families at the Canadian Museum of Immigration in Halifax, Nova Scotia he is said to have made the comparison between the Russian president and the late German dictator.
Speaking to Marienne Ferguson – a museum volunteer who fled to Canada with her Jewish family when she was 13-years-old – he reportedly said: "And now Putin is doing just about the same as Hitler."
The 65-year-old royal is scheduled to meet Putin at the D-Day commemorations in France on June 6, but Mrs. Ferguson claims she agrees with the comments he made about Putin and the Nazi leader, according to the Daily Mail newspaper.
She said: "I had finished showing him the exhibit and talked with him about my own family background and how I came to Canada.
"The prince then said ‘And now Putin is doing just about the same as Hitler’."
"I must say that I agree with him and am sure a lot of people do. I was very surprised that he made the comment as I know they [members of the royal family] aren’t meant to say these things but it was very heartfelt and honest."
In addition to his reported comment, Charles also made a public speech commending Canada for its contribution to the allied victory in the Second World War.
