Philip Glenister wants to star in Life on Mars movie

Philip Glenister wants to star in a ‘Life on Mars’ movie.
The 53-year-old actor – who played DCI Gene Hunt in the full 16 episodes of the hit police drama and its sequel ‘Ashes to Ashes’ – has admitted he would have loved to return for another series and would jump at the chance of reprising his role in a film adaptation of the much loved show.
He explained said: "I had lunch a few weeks ago with my erstwhile colleague John Simm and we talked about the fact that we should have done a third series, and possibly if a movie version of ‘Life on Mars’ came up that would be the route to go down."
And the English star would never turn down the chance of making a comeback if another season was to air.
He explained on ‘This Morning’: "I’ve always said I remain agnostic on the subject. It’s sort of that never say never."
However, his co-star John Simm – who played Sam Tyler – has revealed he regrets turning down the chance to do a third series in 2011.
Speaking previously, the 45-year-old star said: "If anything, maybe I was a bit hasty with that. I should have done another ‘Life On Mars’. Maybe one more. I missed my family and I missed being away from home. The reasons were genuine. If they’d have moved it to London, I would have done it. And then, ironically enough, they did the spin-off in London…
"… I saw that and I thought, ‘Oh, for God’s sake, we could have worked something out.’ It’s a shame. It’s gone now."
Meanwhile, the news comes after the 70s cop show’s co-creater Ashley Pharaoh teased he’d "never say never" to reviving the series, which ran from 2006 until 2007, and revealed he’d love to do a one-off Christmas episode as well.
Ashley said: "We always thought we were going to do three series of ‘Life on Mars’ – and then it became two. I always wanted to do a Christmas special … so never say never, I suppose."
