Peter Kay’s Car Share heading back to BBC iPlayer

‘Peter Kay’s Car Share’ is heading back to BBC iPlayer.
Following the phenomenal response to the special edition audio-only episode of the 46-year-old comedian’s much-loved sitcom – which he co-stars in alongside Sian Gibson – the BBC has announced all 12 episodes of the series will be available as a boxset from May 15, and also repeated on BBC One.
Peter said: "I’m thrilled, it really couldn’t be shown at a better time." The announcement comes after a staggering 34.8 million requests across all episodes of ‘Car Share’ on BBC iPlayer to date.Shane Allen, Controller of BBC Comedy, said: "’Car Share’ was one of the major comedy hits of the last decade and is just the tonic for our times as we join John and Kayleigh on their laughter filled journeys to work and also towards one another’s hearts."
The Bolton star recently said he hoped the audio-only show will cheer people up amid the coronavirus crisis.
He said: "It’s a horrific situation right now we’re all going through and like so many I felt compelled to try and do something positive in an effort to cheer people in some way.
"Sian Gibson, Paul Coleman and myself got together via t’internet and wrote a new short episode of ‘Car Share’ in an effort to try cheer people up.
"It’s all happened very quickly, in fact it didn’t exist a week ago. Obviously we weren’t able to film anything because of the lockdown but I hope people will use their imagination and enjoy listening.
"I’ve given the episode to the good people at BBC iPlayer and it’ll be available to listen from Good Friday 10th April.
"Here’s hoping people enjoy having John and Kayleigh back. Lord knows we need it right now."
The popular sitcom ran for two series between 2015 and 2017, with a two-part finale airing in 2018.
It followed supermarket assistant manager John (Peter) and his colleague Kayleigh (Sian) as they took part in a company car-sharing scheme.
The ‘Phoenix Nights’ star returned to TV for the first time in two years for charity show ‘The Big Night In’ last week.
Peter appeared with a Solero ice cream in hand as he rebooted his famous charity cover of Tony Christie’s hit ‘(Is This The Way To) Amarillo’.
‘Car Share’ will air at 9.30pm from May 15 on BBC One.
