Peter Davison wants to star in a Netflix series

Peter Davison wants to star in a Netflix original series like his son-in-law David Tennant.

The 64-year-old actor has seen some episodes of ‘A.K.A. Jessica Jones’ – the upcoming Marvel Comics inspired show made by the streaming TV service – which stars David, who is married to Peter’s actress daughter Georgia Moffett.

Peter is very impressed by the programming being created by Netflix and American cable series such as ‘Game of Thrones’ and he’s keen to land a role in a new science-fiction project.

The former ‘Doctor Who’ star told BANG Showbiz: "There are lots of shows I’d like to star in, I like ‘Game of Thrones’ but that looks too much like hard work! But I would love to star in a long-running cable series,. Also Netflix is doing some great stuff.

"I wouldn’t mind doing another science-fiction show, Netflix is doing a lot of different science-fiction shows, David is in one of them and after seeing that I’d like to do something similar."

When Peter – who is married to Elizabeth Morton – was making ‘Doctor Who’ in the early 80s, the quality of American television was derided but now he’s happy to admit the shows coming out of the US are the "best" in the world.

He said: "I remember when I was doing stuff for the BBC back in the day, American television was pretty terrible stuff, all the network stuff was (bad). Then cable got its act together and now I think they make the best stuff on television."

Peter will soon be touring the UK as part of ‘The Doctor Who Symphonic Spectacular’.

The production showcases the evocative and thrilling music written by composer Murray Gold for the BBC One sci-fi series since 2005 and features over 100 performers including the BBC National Orchestra of Wales.

Peter will act as the show’s presenter and will also have to deal with several of the Doctor’s enemies, including the Daleks, the Cybermen and the Silence, while on stage.

‘The Doctor Who Symphonic Spectacular’ starts on Saturday May 23 at the The SSE Arena in London.
