Peter Capaldi unsure if he’ll return to Doctor Who

Peter Capaldi isn’t sure if he will return to ‘Doctor Who’.
The 58-year-old actor has portrayed the Time Lord in the BBC One sci-fi drama since 2013, and is leaving fan’s guessing as to whether he will be back for series 11 as he is putting off deciding whether to continue portraying the iconic role for now.
Speaking to the Radio Times magazine, he said: "I’ve been asked to stay on and I haven’t made my mind up about that yet, mainly because I don’t want to have to make that decision. I’m trying to avoid it!
"’Doctor Who’ does take a lot of time, but it’s a wonderful use of it. It’s special. I’m lucky enough to be in touch with other (previous actors who played the) Doctor, and we all agree how extraordinary it is to be in this position.
"To decide to leave is a tough decision for everybody. [It was] very tough for Steven, so I’m just putting it off for as long as possible."
Peter’s delay in his decision comes comes after the show’s writer Mark Gatiss said he’s keen to see a lady take on the lead in the popular series in the near future and already has someone in mind for when Peter decides to leave it behind.
He’d like to see Michelle Gomez – who plays a villain called Missy, which is short for The Mistress, in the series – take on the role.
Speaking recently to BANG Showbiz, the 55-year-old screenwriter said: "Yes I really hope there’s a female Doctor Who very soon. Whenever Peter [Capaldi] hangs up his solitary of driving the show – but I hope he’s not [going to] for a very long time."
When pushed on whether there was a female replacement on the horizon, Mark laughed and teased: "Maybe … I’m sure it will happen, it should happen and the master has been generated into a woman and it’s wonderful.
"Michelle Gomez is just fantastic so you just want to find, and make sure it’s the right person. She would have made a great Doctor…maybe she will."
