Peter Capaldi says starring in ‘Doctor Who’ is the "easiest" job he’s ever had.
The 56-year-old actor took over control of the TARDIS from Matt Smith for this year’s series and although it’s hard work making the programme he insists he’s having a lot of fun.
Speaking at a Q&A session at the screening of new episode ‘Last Christmas’ at the BFI in London this week, the former ‘The Thick of It’ star laughed: "It’s the easiest thing I’ve ever done in my life! It’s not hard, it’s fun, because we’ve got such a great team, the scripts are so good, and we’ve such a fun programme, and it’s such an iconic thing."
Capaldi is shocked that 2014 is almost over and his first run as the Twelfth Doctor has come to an end.
He said: "It’s difficult to say what specific moments were significant to me because the whole thing has just been amazing. The first time you go on to the set, the first time you meet a Dalek or even the first time the TARDIS wobbles when you shut the door."
The actor and his castmates have already done read-throughs of Series 9 and are due to start shooting in January and the next season will kick-off with the episode ‘The Magician’s Apprentice’ – written by showrunner Steven Moffat.
Capaldi said: "I can’t believe it’s gone so quickly. We just had the read-through for the first of next series and I went through the same thing last year, and was absolutely terrified as I didn’t know anybody – and I had to be Doctor Who!"
The ‘Doctor Who’ Christmas special also stars Nick Frost as Santa Claus, former ‘Coronation Street’ actress Natalie Gumede and Jenna-Louise Coleman – who portrays companion Clara Oswald.
‘Last Christmas’ airs at 6:15pm on Christmas Day (25.12.14) on BBC One.
