Pete Wicks to shut down dog meat farm

Pete Wicks is travelling to South Korea to shut down a dog meat farm.
The ‘Only Way is Essex’ star – who has a gorgeous French Bulldog called Eric – has admitted it’s an "absolute privilege" to be chosen to travel with The Humane Society International – also known as the HSI – to help put an end to the country’s barbaric practice, in which dogs are cruelly killed for their meat, by closing down a farm.
Taking to his Instagram account, the 27-year-old hunk wrote: "I am so honoured to announce that I will be travelling to South Korea with @hsiglobal @hsiukorg to help shut down a DOG MEAT farm. It is something that is very close to my heart and an absolute privilege to be able to use my voice for those that can’t ..please help the team and I however big or small by donating whatever you can using this link: hsi.org/helpnow or click the link in my bio #linkinbio (sic)"
Over the past few months, the HSI have saved over 100 dogs and newborn puppies from being electrocuted, butchered and boiled in a soup pot in South Korea.
The organisation also stepped in to rescue 149 canines from being sold at a meat market during the Bok Nal season where dogs are slaughtered and made into soup.
Photographs emerged online of the dogs being lifted from the tiny, dirty, crates and taken to safety before being flown to animal shelters in the US for rehoming.
Nara Kim, HSI’s South Korea dog meat campaigner, said: "Eating dog is a dying practice in Korea, especially among young people.
"However, the Bok Nal days of summer still lead many to eat dog meat soup in the mistaken belief that it will invigorate the blood in the sluggish heat.
"Our campaign shows them the disgusting conditions in which the dogs are forced in live in their own faeces, and their pitiful suffering, and it is changing hearts and minds. Some people say that dog eating is Korean culture, but you won’t find many young people who feel it’s a cultural habit we want to hold on to."
