Pete Doherty reveals whether The Libertines are planning a new album

Pete Doherty has revealed there is “talk of another” Libertines album.

The British indie legends topped the charts with their 2024 LP All Quiet on the Eastern Esplanade.

Fans waited almost a decade for the follow-up to 2015’s Anthems for Doomed Youth.

According to Doherty, he and co-frontman Carl Barat aren’t on the same wavelength about the group signing to the former’s indie record label Strap Originals.

He told Far Out: “There’s always going to be festivals here and there with The Libs. We’ll see what happens.”

Confirming new music talks, Doherty teased: “There’s talk of another album. I’m trying to get them to sign to Strap Originals, but I don’t think Carl’s having it.”

The musician’s other band, Babyshambles, are currently on their first UK tour in more than a decade.

The frontman recently hailed the comeback as a “no-brainer,” revealing that the decision was driven by both fan demand and personal reflection.

He told NME: “Everywhere I go I get, ‘what’s happening with the ‘shambles?’

“It’s unfinished business and a real desire to play some of them old tunes and have a little shindig.”

It also serves as a tribute to former guitarist Patrick Walden, who passed away earlier this year at age 46.

He told Far Out: “He was supposed to be here.

“That’s why we did it, you know, because Pat, in particular, was in a bad way, and he needed a few pennies, and that’s why we were gonna do it, and then he died.”

The reunion also coincides with the 20th anniversary of Babyshambles’ debut album Down in Albion, a record that captured the messy brilliance of Doherty’s songwriting and the band’s unpredictable energy. Fans can expect a setlist packed with cult favorites like Killamangiro, Albion and Delivery.

Next year, The Libertines will play festivals including Y Not and Truck.
