Perry Farrell seeking medical help after onstage bust-up

Jane’s Addiction frontman Perry Farrell is seeking medical treatment following his onstage bust-up with Dave Navarro.

The band’s gig in Boston on September 13 came to an abrupt end after Farrell, 65, appeared to throw a punch at his bandmate during a heated confrontation in front of the audience, and the band went on to scrap the rest of their tour – and now Farrell’s wife Etty Lau Farrell has revealed the singer has booked appointments with a neurologist and an ear, nose and throat specialist.

In a post on Instagram, Etty explained: “As you know, Perry is the gentlest of souls. We are equally astonished at Perry’s physical outburst as you are – but you must know that Perry must had been pushed to his absolute limit.. to that end we apologise.

“We are taking a bit of time to ourselves, to reflect and to heal. Perry already has appointments with a otolaryngologist and a neurologist. If you know and love Perry well, you know there’s no need for me to address the other false narratives. Our souls know.”

She added: “With all of your love, kindness, compassion and support, you know, Perry will persevere.. He will recover. He will be happy again. He will once again be able to share his music, vision and artistry – unbridled.

“Make no mistake when he’s ready he will take another giant leap over obstacles to make us laugh, think, while changing the world together.

“We can rejoice together then. And you will know, we would not have been able to do it without you.”

It comes after Jane’s Addiction scrapped the rest of their North American tour dates and Farrell apologised for his “inexcusable behaviour”.

In a statement on his Instagram Story, the singer wrote: “This weekend has been incredibly difficult and after having the time and space to reflect, it is only that I apologise to my bandmates, especially Dave Navarro, fans, family and friends for my actions during Friday’s show.

“Unfortunately, my breaking point resulted in inexcusable behaviour, and I take full accountability for how I chose to handle the situation.”

It came just hours after the band announced they had decided to scrap the rest of their tour. A statement on Dave’s Instagram account – signed by the guitarist and his bandmates Eric Avery and Stephen Merkins – read: “Due to a continuing pattern of behaviour and the mental health difficulties of our singer Perry Farrell, we have come to the conclusion that we have no choice but to discontinue the current US tour.

“Our concern for his personal health and safety as well as our own has left us no alternative. We hope that he will find the help he needs. (sic) …

“We deeply regret that we are not able to come through for all our fans who have already bought tickets.

“We can see no solution that would either ensure a safe environment on stage or reliably allow us to deliver a great performance on a nightly basis. “Our hearts are broken. Dave, Eric and Stephen. (sic)”

The band was scheduled to play another 12 concerts across the US and Canada in coming weeks.
