Pensionalities and MerseyGirls for BGT final

The Pensionalities and MerseyGirls have made it through to the ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ final.
The fourth semi-final of the ITV talent competition on Thursday (01.06.17) saw eight more acts battle for one of two available spots in the show’s live final on Saturday (03.06.17), and it was elderly singing duo The Pensionalities and dance troupe MerseyGirls – who were previously known as Just Us before changing their name for copyright reasons – who wowed the voting public enough to win the coveted places.
Yorkshire duo The Pensionalities auditioned under the name Pensionaires before having to change their name and are made up of Henry Hall, 85, and his best friend Malcolm White, 75. During the live semi-final, the pair charmed the audience with their rendition of One Direction’s ‘History’, with judge Simon Cowell calling the song choice "genius".
He said: "Tonight hasn’t been great … until you two came out. Genius song choice. You’re what this show’s all about. I have a feeling we’ll be seeing you on Saturday night."
Taking the second spot in the final was Alesha Dixon’s golden buzzer act MerseyGirls – a troupe of five girls aged 14 to 17 – who’s lead performer Julia Carlile, 15, suffers with scoliosis and will soon need surgery on her spine which could prevent her from dancing.
Simon said of their performance: "Whatever happens, we’re going to make sure you’re in a great place. The acts that got me tonight were you and The Pensionalities. Both about friendship and positivity."
Meanwhile, singer Reuben Gray narrowly missed out on a place in the final after finishing in third place with an original song he had written for his girlfriend for Valentine’s Day.
Elsewhere in the show, Ryan Tracey failed to break the world record for the most original balloon structures made in 60 seconds, as he equalled the previous record of 13.
Ryan, along with dance group Paws With Soul, hula hoop extraordinaire John Parnell, musical comedian Jonny Awsum, and Welsh choir Angelicus Celtis, also failed to make it through to the final.
The Pensionalities and MerseyGirls will join yesterday’s finalists Tokio Myers, a musician, and nine-year-old comedian Ned Woodman – as well as comedian and magician Matt Edwards, fellow magician Issy Simspon, singer Kyle Tomlinson, and magic duo DNA – on the ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ stage for the final on Saturday.
