Peaky Blinders tops BAFTA TV Craft Awards winners


‘Peaky Blinders’ and ‘Downton Abbey’ were among the big winners at the BAFTA TV Craft Awards last night (27.04.14).

The BBC Two gangster drama took home two prizes at the annual television awards ceremony, which recognises the talented staff who work behind the scenes on Britain’s best-loved programmes, including a Best Director: Fiction prize for Otto Bathurst and Photography & Lighting: Fiction for George Steel.

‘Downton’ costume designer Caroline McCall took home the Costume Design gong for the hit period drama, while fellow ITV drama ‘Broadchurch’ was honoured with the Original Music prize for Olafur Arnalds.

‘Doctor Who’ was also a big winner at the awards for its 50th anniversary efforts as ‘The Day of the Doctor’, which starred Matt Smith, David Tennant and John Hurt, was crowned winner of the Special, Visual and Graphic Effects category.

Biographical drama ‘An Adventure in Time and Space’, which chronicled the creation of the BBC sci-fi show, also won in the Make Up and Hair Design field.

‘In the Flesh’ writer Dominic Mitchell won the Writer: Drama category and ‘IT Crowd’ scribe Graham Linehan took home the Writer: Comedy gong.

BBC One primetime series ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ won the Special Award for its consistent technical and creative achievements. The prize was collected by the show’s crew, led by series director Nikki Parsons, and was presented by ‘Strictly’ professional dancer Anton du Beke and former winner Kara Tointon.

Other winners included ‘Ant & Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway’, ‘The X Factor’ and ‘Educating Yorkshire’.
