Paul Martin’s new game show like The Crystal Maze

Paul Martin’s new game show ‘Curiosity’ is inspired by ‘The Crystal Maze’.
The former ‘Flog It!’ presenter has landed a gig as the host of the new programme on BBC One, which sees two amateur antiques enthusiasts go head-to-head to make the most money at auction, answer a number of quiz questions and complete tasks in a series of rooms set in different time periods.
The 59-year-old antiques expert – who was devastated when it was announced the BBC were axing ‘Flog It!’, after 17 years on screen – says ‘Curiosity’ has a likeness to the Channel 4 show, which features four zones, Aztec, Industrial – which was later replaced by Ocean – Futuristic and Medieval, where the contestants take part in a series of challenges and games in order to win crystals, each of which give them five seconds in the final crystal dome.
According to Metro.co.uk, Paul said: "We took inspiration from ‘The Crystal Maze’.
"There are four room which span four centuries and a central area where the quiz takes place.
"Contestants who complete challenges win items which are curiously curated and added up in value, with the highest value collection winning the chance to swap their collection for an item in the curiosity shop, which could make or lose them money."
The group who fail to complete the challenge will be rewarded with a mug with the game show’s name on it, and Paul admitted that if the show is a hit, the piece of "tat" could become "priceless".
He added: "The losers get a ‘Curiosity’ mug – a piece of tat from a junk shop that we put a logo on -which could be priceless in years to come, if the show is a success."
Meanwhile, the TV star previously admitted he hopes there will be some "special" episodes of ‘Flog It!’ before it retires from screens in June.
Paul would like to see celebrity or charity episodes air.
He said: "Secretly I’m thinking maybe there’ll be some specials or some Children In Need ones or a celebrity ‘Flog It!’.
"It’s down to the channel really and I can’t make those decisions. I’m kind of missing it already. It’s 18 years of my life."
The BBC was inundated with complaints over their decision to axe ‘Flog It!’.
Upset viewers bombarded the broadcaster with calls, urging them to rethink their decision to end the programme.
