Patrick Wilson: Actors don’t need to be ‘screwed up’

Patrick Wilson insists actors don’t have to be "screwed up" to be good at their jobs.
The 42-year-old star is happily married to ‘The Immigrant’ actress Dagmara Domińczyk and has rubbished claims that those who have troubled personal lives or difficult histories are more convincing at portraying emotion on screen.
He said: "I remember reading an interview with some actress who said the more screwed up an actor is the better their acting will be. I always thought that was kind of ridiculous. My parents are still together, I have a stable marriage and I don’t think that makes me suffer as an actor."
Wilson – whose other credits include dark films such as ‘Hard Candy’ and ‘The Watchman’ and TV series ‘Fargo’ – stars in the forthcoming paranormal movie ‘The Conjuring 2’ and enjoys the horror genre.
He added: "I’ve always sort of gravitated towards that. Every now and again, I feel I have to make a film that satisfied that desire."
Meanwhile, the actor says he isn’t a "stage dad" to his two kids Kalin, nine, and Kassian, six, and won’t push his sons into acting but accepts they may want to follow in their parents’ footsteps like he did.
He told the Metro newspaper: "I would never discourage it. My dad was a TV news anchor and my mum was a singer so I great up with performing. My sons have been in a a couple of movies of mine, just quietly, but I don’t want to thrown them out there just yet.
"I am not a stage dad; we will keep it at school plays for now."
