Michael Fassbender was shot "point blank" when the '12 Years a Slave' cast and crew went paintballing.
The 36-year-old actor admits his role as abusive slave master Edwin Epps in the movie so him targetted by his co-stars when they took part in a light-hearted teambuilding exercise.
Speaking on the red carpet at last night's (16.02.14) BAFTA Awards in London, he said: "We went paintballing, I just remember Chiwetel [Ejiofor] saying my dad said to him 'cover me' and went running."
Asked if his role meant he was singled out, he added to E! News: " got it everywhere, it was like I had hickeys all over my head, I got shot point blank. Some people came with their own gear."
The 'Shame' star was thrilled with his role in the movie as the story had reduced him to tears, and so he had asked his frequent collaborator, director Steve McQueen for any role in the film, even if it was just "a few days" work.
He said: "I knew when I read it it was such an amazing story, it brought me to tears at the end of the read, it was just an extraordinary story, I'd never even heard of this guy Solomon Northup.
"I didn't know anything about him or the book so when Steve passed the script on to me, I just wanted to do anything, even if it was just a couple of days work. I knew it was an important piece then."
Because of the serious subject matter, Michael says the set felt very "intense", which was why the cast and crew regularly socialised together, such as the paintballing day.
He added: "On set the intensity was pretty crazy every day because of the responsibility...[So] we hung out as much as we could, had dinners, there was a lot of trust there."

Harvey Weinstein has revealed Dame Judi Dench has had his name tattooed on her butt.
The 61-year-old film producer worked with Dench on 'Philomena' and as the pair caught up at the BAFTAs on Sunday night (16.02.14) the 79-year-old actress unveiled the body art, which she has had done as a permanent tribute to the film.
Dench showed off her intimate inking to Weinstein and Oprah Winfrey, who acted as a "witness" to prove the tattoo really does exist.
During an appearance on British talk show 'Lorraine', he revealed: 'Philomena' has done well and Dame Judi Dench has had another tattoo, seriously! She did a tattoo years ago and then she dumped me for Kevin Spacey then she dumped him for Johnny Depp and then dumped him for Daniel Craig but because 'Philomena' is doing so well I think she's trying to tell me that there's a chance. Last night, she showed me a tattoo with my name and she flashed Oprah Winfrey - it's on her butt! She is so naughty, and I'm not kidding. Oprah said, 'I'm the witness.' "
Weinstein insists the British Academy of Film and Television Awards, which were held at the Royal Opera House in London, are always a highlight of awards season, and that has a lot to do with host Stephen Fry.
The Weinstein Company founder - who was accompanied to the ceremony by his fashion designer wife Georgina Chapman - was thrilled that 'Philomena' won the Adapted Screenplay prize as he believes the BAFTAs are a good indicator as to what can happen at the Oscars, at which the movie is nominated in four categories.
He said: "First of all (with the BAFTAs) you have the secret weapon that's almost as good anything, anywhere, and that's Stephen Fry. He is the most articulate, funny and sarcastic man. Some of the things he gets away with, in America he'd be in jail for saying half that stuff. Literally the cops would arrest him on stage ... The BAFTAs are extremely important on the way to the Oscars because it all ends with The Oscars - which are the grandfather of all of this. But the British awards really point the way now ... It's all one road leading to the Oscars and this year it's going to be a tight race."

Leonardo DiCaprio admits 'The Wolf of Wall Street' was like "organised chaos".
The 39-year-old actor was nominated for best actor at the BAFTAs last night (16.02.14) for his portrayal of Jordan Belfort in the comedy, but he believes the director Martin Scorsese helped him explore his role in-depth thanks to his choice of set.
He explained to the BBC: "Martin Scorsese really created this set in a really specific way, it was like organised chaos. So we were all kind of living in a giant bosch painting. It was like the modern day Roman empire ... we wanted to make a portrait of our culture today. So it's really thanks to him and this character really took on the life of its own."
The 'Titanic' star first worked with the renowned director on 'The Gangs of New York' followed by 'The Aviator', 'The Departed' and 'Shutter Island' but their relationship became even closer working on their latest project - which took them seven years to bring to the bring screen - but he wasn't expecting to be nominated for the award.
Speaking to E! on the red carpet at London's Royal Opera House, he said: "I don't predict any of these things and have no idea what's going to happen, but to be here with a film like this that takes a lot of chances is an amazing feeling. This is really the second film in my career I got behind and did everything to get made."

Steve McQueen was told by a school teacher he'd never be anything more than a plumber.
The 44-year-old director - who suffers with dyslexia - saw his film '12 Years A Slave' honoured as the Best Film at the BAFTA awards last night (16.02.14), but he admits he was once told he'd only ever make it as a tradesman.
He said: "No one cared. No one invested any time or care into these people -- many very talented -- who they'd marked for manual labour."
The gripping movie tells the true story of black New Yorker Solomon Northup, who was kidnapped in 1841 and sold into slavery, before being subjected to racism by his white "owners".
He added to The Sun newspaper: "I think there is amnesia about this subject and I just wanted to wake people up.
"I'd always thought it would be interesting to do a film about slavery. There were no films about it and I wanted to fill that void and see if I could grapple with it."
While accepting his award last night, McQueen said he hoped the number of people living in slavery would decrease and there would be no need for another film addressing the horrifying issue.
He said: "[There are] 21 million people in slavery now as we sit here. I just hope there will not be another 120 years of ambivalence that allows another filmmaker to make a film like this."

The Black Eyed Peas could soon reform for a world tour.
The 'I Gotta Feeling' hitmakers - will.i.am, Fergie, apl.de.ap and Taboo - are set to record their first studio album since 2010 before heading out on the road.
A source told The Sun newspaper: "The Black Eyed Peas are all in agreement that they should put a new tour on for the fans - it's not like they properly split when they parted for a hiatus in 2012.
"This time around they're going to head back into the studio and lay down a new album quickly and then hit the road once again."
Will.i.am, 38, is said to have been "instrumental" in persuading members to get back together, but he's finding it tough to get Fergie on board because she is demanding more for the reunion.
The 38-year-old singer has been spending time with her husband Josh Duhamel and their six-month-old son, Axl, and isn't as keen to tour again.
The source said: "Fergie's been stalling and wants to hold out for as much money as she can guarantee.
"She's got a baby now and needs it to be a very worthy amount to make her take her baby on the road.
"Will knows without Fergie there isn't really a BEP tour so they're willing to pay her more to keep her happy if that's what it takes.
"He just wants to celebrate the career they had and show people they still have what it takes to top the charts with the new music."

Amy Winehouse's earnings have quadrupled since the singer's death.
The 'Black to Black' hitmaker, who died aged 27 of alcohol poisoning at her home in north London in July 2011, has made more cash since her death than she did when she was alive.
New accounts show her Cherry Westfield company, which is managed by her parents Mitch Winehouse and Janis Seaton, made profits of £1.06 million for the 16 months to April 2013, according to The Sun newspaper.
It was a rise from £257,353 recorded from November 2010 until November 2011.
More than 1.7 million copies of 'Back to Black' - the star's critically-acclaimed second album - have been sold since Amy died. It follows similar situations after the deaths of legends Elvis Presley and Michael Jackson.
The latest figures show the star's company had to pay out nearly £1.4 million but has assets of £2.4 million - including £2.1 million in cash.
Meanwhile, Amy's dad recently said he has forgiven her ex-husband, Blake Fielder-Civil, who gave the late star her first hit of heroin.
Mitch, 61, is urging him to help others by speaking out about their addiction as he continues to dedicate his time to the Amy Winehouse Foundation.
He said: "Blake is the kind of person who we send into schools to talk to kids about the dangers of drugs. He has a story to tell and he could help many hundreds of young people through his story."

Tinie Tempah admits it "felt great" to high-five Britain's Prince William at the BAFTA awards last night (16.02.14).
The 25-year-old rapper opened the glamorous ceremony, held in London, with a duet featuring Mercury Prize nominee Laura Mvula, but during the performance he slapped palms with the future king.
Speaking to the BBC, he said: "It was great, I just saw him there and thought, 'Do you know what? why not?', and it felt great."
The 'Drinking From the Bottle' hitmaker admits his fans went crazy on Twitter after watching the pal-like relationship between him and the 31-year-old royal on television.
He explained: "I've seen my Twitter, it's going crazy at the minute but it was fun. Seriously, like, it was such a memorable performance."
However, Tinie has met the Prince - who has seven-month-old son Prince George with his wife Duchess Catherine - on a number of occasions in the past and insists it wasn't awkward between them, and he felt it was acceptable to do that gesture.
He said: "We've met a couple of times now, so I felt safe. I felt like something bad isn't going to happen. And it was all right and I was happy."

Leonardo DiCaprio feels honoured to have worked with Martin Scorsese.
The 39-year-old actor was nominated for best actor at the BAFTAs last night (16.02.14) for his portrayal of Jordan Belfort in the Scorsese-directed film, 'The Wolf of Wall Street', and admits he feels lucky to have worked with the filmmaker on more than one occasion.
He said: "The truth is I was lucky enough to do one film with him and five is beyond my wildest dreams. He really has the finger on the pulse of our culture and he says something about humanity with his film-making."
Leonardo was up against Tom Hanks for 'Captain Phillips', Christian Bale for 'American Hustle', Bruce Dern for 'Nebraska' and Chiwetel Ejiofor - who took home the coveted prize for his outstanding performance as Solomon Northup in '12 Years a Slave'.

Oprah Winfrey had to be sewn into her BAFTA Awards gown ahead of the ceremony last night (16.02.14).
The 60-year-old actress and talk show host struggled to get into her Stella McCartney dress before the annual event at London's Royal Opera House, where she was nominated for an award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in 'Lee Daniels' The Butler'.
She posted a video on her Instagram account before walking the red carpet, showing two stylists trying to stitch her into the figure-hugging burgundy dress, which featured a huge bow and lace detail.
Oprah said: "It's an hour to go and this is Raj and Giuseppe who are literally stitching me into my gown ... Hello Stella McCartney!"
The star was up against Julia Roberts, Lupita Nyong'o, Sally Hawkins and Jennifer Lawrence in her category and lost out to Jennifer, 23, for her part in 'American Hustle', although she was unable to attend the event.
Though she didn't win, Oprah - who also presented the award for Outstanding British Film to 'Gravity' - was still delighted to be nominated for an award as she worried she would "embarrass herself" in the movie.
She said: "For someone who was trying not to embarrass myself, it is amazing.
"The best part is it is a jury of your peers. It's people who do this for a living - don't make me cry now! It's people who do this for a living saying, 'We're going to give you a vote. We think what you did deserves this.' "
'The Butler' is Oprah's third film, having starred in 1998's 'Beloved' and 1985's 'The Color Purple', which also saw her get an Oscar nomination.

Kylie Minogue has urged Simon Cowell to put Dannii Minogue back on 'The X Factor' judging panel.
The 45-year-old singer believes her sister - who was on the panel from 2007 to 2010 - has done really well since joining the Australian version of the show last year and will benefit the UK programme.
She said: "Dannii has done so well on 'X Factor Australia', she won it with her artist.
"She's got better and better and this year, in the words of ['X Factor' UK judge] Louis Walsh, she nailed it! So yes, I would like to see her back."
The 54-year-old music mogul is currently making the final decision on who he would like on the judging panel alongside him this year, with Cheryl Cole - who was on the show from 2008 to 2010 - believed to be one of his firm choices.
Kylie added to The Sun newspaper: "I think I'm with the whole country when I say the show has been missing her and Simon and Cheryl.
"It would be very exciting to see them back."
Having Dannii, 42, back on the panel could recreate the on-screen chemistry between her and Simon, who the music mogul admitted to having an affair with in his 2012 autobiography, and boost ratings.
However, Simon welcomed his first child son Eric into the world at the weekend with his girlfriend Lauren Silverman.
Meanwhile, Dannii - who has also appeared as a judge on 'Australia's Got Talent' - also has three-year-old son Ethan with her ex-boyfriend Kris Smith.

John Goodman thought he'd "kissed goodbye" to starring in war movies.
The 'Monuments Men' actor - who plays one of the soldiers helping to recover art stolen by the Nazis during WWII - believed he had come too far in his career to be cast in a historical military film.
He explained: "I'd just kissed it goodbye a long time ago. I never figured I'd be in a war movie."
However, the 61-year-old star admits he had a lot of fun working alongside George Clooney, Jean Dujardin, Matt Damon and Bill Murray in the comedy, but he struggled with the costume at times.
He said: "I'm very grateful to have been asked and it was so much fun to put on a uniform every day. Except for the boots, I had trouble with the boots.
"But it was like playing. It was like being 12 years old again, out in the yard."
Goodman insists the cast got on really well and Clooney - who also directed the movie - was always cracking jokes in between takes.
He explained to the Belfast Telegraph newspaper: "We all had great respect for each other, and once the cameras stopped rolling, once he finished his shots, then we would laugh, until the next set up. We just sat around telling jokes, swapping lines and just having the best time."
