Paul Walker's daughter is reportedly "disgusted" that her grandmother is seeking to be her legal guardian.
Cheryl Walker filed court documents earlier this week in a bid to be appointed Meadow's custodian, following the death of 'The Fast and the Furious' star in a car crash in November, claiming the teenager's mother Rebecca Soteros is an alcoholic.
But a source told E! News: "Everyone was taken by surprise. This has been hard on everyone close to them. [Meadow and her mom] didn't know. There have been discussions but no one told them they were going ahead with it. They first heard about it when they saw it on TMZ. They are very disgusted by this. It is such disregard for their feelings."
The insider predicted that Rebecca wouldn't give up Meadow, 15, without a fight, adding: "She loves her. She has always been and will always be a good mother and there is no reason for a change. She will fight this, I'm sure, until her last breath to be [Meadow's] mom. All she wants is to have her child."
Meadow began living with her famous father full-time in California three years before his death, after moving there from Hawaii, where her mother - who was arrested in 2003 and 2013 for drink driving - raised her.
The source also dismissed Cheryl's claims that Rebecca has a drinking problem, saying: "It's just crazy how people blow things out of proportion.
"Rebecca is a great mother and Meadow is a very happy child. Their relationship is excellent. Rebecca is a former school teacher and good with children."
Meadow is set to inherit Paul's entire $25 million fortune.
The late star appointed his father Paul Walker Sr. as the executor of his will, and stated that Cheryl should become Meadow's legal guardian.
A hearing on Cheryl's request is scheduled for April 30.

Charlie Sheen has blasted John Mayer for suing his friend.
The singer-songwriter filed a lawsuit against Robert Maron, accusing the jeweller of selling him a counterfeit Rolex watch after he splashed out $5 million on several timepieces, but 'Anger Management' star Charlie believes John knew the accessory wasn't authentic and claims he also re-sold a number of counterfeit designer watches for a huge profit.
The 48-year-old actor told gossip website TMZ.com: "WAIT!! Mayer spent $5M with Maron and is crying about $600K?!? Ask him how he did on the $4.4M...! Sorry that seven of your 100 watches aren't to your liking! boohoo!!"
Maron's lawyer, Eric George, claims he has proof that John, 36, is lying about claiming he didn't know the piece had counterfeit parts because the 'Who You Love' hitmaker allegedly expressed an interest in buying a fake Rolex Flat Dial on a message board in 2007.
The star is quoted in a letter as saying: "Anyone who wants to sell me one of these watches can get these fake pieces off their hands and make a killing on it.
"I will even accept a letter from you as a dealer releasing you from any liability in having sold me a counterfeit dial. I will be buying these as counterfeits."
Charlie, who also collects Rolexes, added: "Maron wrote the book - period the end. Nothing but respect for Bob -- his integrity is beyond reproach! This calamity of buyer's remorse seven years after the fact is clearly a reflection on John Mayer's character and not on Bob Maron's."
John claims he was shocked to find one of the timepieces was a replica after sending it for repairs three years later.
He reportedly returned the watch and was given credit to buy another but now wants a refund for $656,000 he spent on seven other watches which Rolex have told him are counterfeit.
Rolex is one of the world's most prestigious watch brands, with the coveted timepieces ranging anywhere from $5,000 with the most exclusive designs costing upwards of $500,000.

Sir Mick Jagger is being comforted by his children in Los Angeles.
The Rolling Stones rocker flew into LAX from Perth, Australia on Thursday morning (20.03.14), following his long-time girlfriend's suicide in Manhattan, New York on Monday (17.03.14).
The British star, 70, has been joined by five of his seven children, daughters Karis, 43, Elizabeth, 30, Georgia May, 22, and Jade Jagger, 42, as well as his 28-year-old son, James, and plans to stay with them in California until L'Wren's funeral.
A spokesperson for the musician told the New York Daily News: "They adore him. He will stay in L.A. while the funeral arrangements are being made in New York."
L'Wren's body was claimed from the New York City Medical Examiner's office on Wednesday (19.03.14), two days after she killed herself in her Manhattan apartment while Mick was away on tour.
It is not yet known where the 47-year-old star will be buried but the former model's siblings, Randall Bambrough and Jan Shane, are hoping she will be laid to rest in their hometown in Utah.
Jan's husband Rob previously said: "Jan is hoping that Randy will do the right thing and bring L'Wren back to Utah. The family has a plot at a cemetery in North Ogden, and she would like her sister buried by their parents."

Chris Brown is close to reaching a civil settlement with a man he allegedly assaulted in Washington D.C.
The 24-year-old star's lawyer, Mark Geragos, has reportedly offered Parker Adams, who claims Chris broke his nose and hurled a homophobic slur at him in the city last October, a large financial deal in the hopes of convincing him to tell prosecutors he no longer wants to participate in the criminal case against Chris, thus helping the Grammy Award-winner avoid any more time in jail.
A source told gossip website TMZ.com that prosecutors are aware that Geragos is in negotiations for a civil settlement and he is expected to strike an agreement with Parker's representatives by the end of this week.
Parker filed court documents suing Chris and his bodyguard for $3 million last month, in which he claimed they attacked him when he tried to insert himself in a photograph that the singer was taking with two females outside the W Hotel.
Chris, who was first placed on probation in 2009 after assaulting his then-girlfriend Rihanna, is facing a misdemeanour assault charge in relation to the incident and could be sentenced to four years in jail if convicted on April 17.
But it is thought he could be released from jail by early next week if Parker forces prosecutors to drop the criminal assault case by refusing to cooperate.
The R&B singer was ordered to remain in a Los Angeles correctional facility for another month on Monday (17.03.14), after getting thrown out of a second rehab facility in Malibu recently for "rubbing elbows" with a female, refusing to take a drug test and making a threat during group therapy, reportedly saying, "I am good at using guns and knives."

Kim Kardashian had an awkward encounter with Reggie Bush this week.
The 'Keeping Up with the Kardashians' star bumped into her ex-boyfriend and his fiancée, Lilit Avagyan, in Ed's Coffee Shop in West Hollywood on Monday morning (17.03.14).
A source told UsMagazine.com that the 33-year-old brunette beauty immediately noticed the couple when she walked into the small restaurant to order breakfast and went to a nearby children's clothing boutique while it was being prepared so she didn't have to wait beside them.
The insider said: "It seemed uncomfortable. Kim ordered her omelette, then went to Bel Bambini."
Kim dated the NFL star on-and-off for two years and he regularly appeared on her family's E! series before they split for good in July 2009.
They briefly reconnected after her split from Kris Humphries in October 2011 after 72-days of marriage, during which time the Detroit Lions player was said to be "comforting" her.
An insider said: "Reggie and Kim have been talking since she split with Kris."
The former couple have since both moved on.
Reggie, 29, has a 10-month-old daughter Briseis with dancer Lilit, 26, while Kim has a nine-month-old little girl North with her fiancée Kanye West, whom she is set to wed in Paris on May 24.

Jennifer Aniston wants to elope with Justin Theroux.
The former 'Friends' star is reportedly fed up of trying to plan a lavish affair and is eager to tie the knot with her fiancé in front of a few close friends as soon as possible.
A source told Us Weekly magazine: "Justin and Jen might be eloping. She would love for her big day to be this spring."
The 45-year-old actress is a frequent visitor to Cabo San Lucas in Mexico so it's no surprise it tops her list of potential locations for their nuptials.
The actress doesn't want their wedding to be "too stuffy, something casual," and the source added: "Jen would fly people out, someplace warm. Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, is a possibility. She loves it there."
The couple - who got engaged in August 2012 - were spotted holding hands in New York City last week, putting to rest rumours their relationship was on the rocks.
A source claimed last month that their wedding was on hold as Jennifer, who was previously married to Brad Pitt, was feeling "extremely insecure" about her future with Justin and she opted to celebrate her birthday with friends, including Courteney Cox, in Los Angeles while he was working in Manhattan.
The insider said at the time: "Justin asked Jen to come to New York City but she declined, citing the cold weather. She wanted to be in sunny Southern California with her friends.

The source added: "The relationship is definitely at an impasse...either it's going to fizzle out, which seems likely, or they get married. Jen is extremely insecure and very needy.... Justin is the opposite, very laid back and low maintenance."

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department are reportedly "absolutely furious" that Justin Bieber won't face felony charges for egging his neighbour's house.
The 20-year-old singer was accused of causing $20,000 in damage to Jeffrey Schwartz's house within the exclusive gated community The Oaks in Calabasas, California in January, but he will only be charged with misdemeanour vandalism in connection with the incident.
A source told gossip website RadarOnline.com that detectives investigating the case are furious with the LA District Attorney (D.A.) for refusing to consider more severe charges against the 'Confident' hitmaker, despite their recommendations.
The law enforcement insider said: "He caused $20,000 in damage and there is just no denying that.
"It sends the wrong the message to the community that celebrities are treated differently. This case should be filed against Justin as a felony, period."
But another source said: "There just isn't enough compelling evidence to file a felony vandalism charge against Justin. Many feel the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department/Lost Hills Station has been extremely over-zealous in their investigation involving Justin, such as sending over a dozen squad cars to execute a search warrant at his house, and issuing press releases when the investigation was handed over to the D.A. It's just not done to the average guy.
"The estimates for repair of $20,000 to the neighbour's house are just overblown. Yes there was some minor damage, but nowhere near that amount."
The 'Believe' singer moved the last of his belongings out of the house this week after recently selling the property to Khloe Kardashian.
Justin is now renting a house in Atlanta, Georgia, with a view to buying a property and moving to the city full time.

Emma Stone cried after receiving a video message from Mel B.
The 25-year-old actress was devastated to learn she missed out on the chance to meet the former Spice Girls star during a radio interview in Australia, but her tears turned to happiness when she received a special clip to make up for her disappointment.
When 2Day FM's Merrick Watts and Sophie Monk told Emma their occasional co-host couldn't be there for the interview, the actress' eyes filled with tears and her voice cracked as she said: "Wait, Mel B, could have been here? I'm gonna cry."
The 'Amazing Spider-Man 2' star was then stunned as a video of Mel appeared, with her saying 'Hi Emma'.
The actress sobbed and exclaimed: "Oh my god, is Mel B talking to me? Oh my god, I'm so excited. I'm legitimately crying. I'm the biggest Spice Girls fan ever."
Referring to an interview Emma did in 2012 when she singled out Emma Bunton as her favourite Spice Girl, Mel added: "First of all, I want to say I absolutely adore you. I love you. And I want to say thank you for being such a Spice Girl fan. But my question to you is, why did you like Baby Spice and not me more?
"Your punishment for that, is I want you to do a rendition of one of the Spice Girls songs."
Emma then said: "You guys, I'm really excited about this. I'm legitimately excited."
She then chose 'Wannabe', and after initially stumbling over the lyrics, the actress - who is in a relationship with her 'Amazing Spider-Man 2' co-star Andrew Garfield - performed the first verse of the track before stopping to say: "I'm crying...I love Mel B."

Amanda Bynes is a "great" student.
The 27-year-old actress completed her first quarter at the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising (FIDM) yesterday (19.03.14) and insiders say she has impressed everyone on campus in Orange County, California, with her hard-working attitude and dedication.
A source told E! News: "She's a great student who always participated and really cared about her classes. She really fit in and loves her school."
Amanda - who completed psychiatric treatment for both schizophrenia and bipolar disorder in December following a series of public outbursts - enjoys classes so much, she is planning on enrolling for more studies in April.
The source added: "If she was offered an acting job anytime soon, she may not take it because she's so focused on school."
The 'Sydney White' actress hasn't spoken much since leaving treatment, but returned to twitter at the beginning of this month to update her followers.
She wrote: "Hi everyone! I'm busy studying at @FIDM but I want to say I love you to my fans!"
She also shared a self-portrait she had drawn, and the insider said that was just a hint of the talent she is showing.
The source said: "Amanda's really talented at what she does so the picture is the real deal. She's only just beginning."
The actress originally intended to study fashion design but decided to pursue merchandise product development instead.

Michelle Heaton's second pregnancy came as a "surprise".
The Liberty X singer welcomed son Aaron Jay into the world last month and she admitted she and husband Hugh Hanley - with who she already has two-year-old daughter Faith - had discussed not having any more kids because she is planning to have her ovaries removed as she is a carrier of the BRAC2 gene, meaning she is at high risk of contracting breast and ovarian cancer.
Speaking on 'Lorraine', Michelle - who underwent a double mastectomy in 2012 - said: "We just didn't know [if we'd have another child] because with the BRAC2 gene I have, getting my ovaries removed is something that's going to happen. We didn't know when, it's really hard to say when that should happen; there is no right answer.
"I suppose the longer you leave it, the higher the risk you'll get ovarian cancer, so we were contemplating not having any more children. Baby Aaron was bit of a surprise. We felt it was God's way of saying, 'Have one more then move on with the operation.'
"I'm blessed. I know how lucky I am, I really do."
The 'Just a Little Bit' singer is planning to have her ovaries removed as soon as possible, but she has been advised to wait a few months to allow her hormones to settle following the birth of her son.
She added: "I don't really know all the answers. It's a bit scary."
