Duke and Duchess of Cambridge to visit Police College

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will visit the Royal New Zealand Police College tomorrow (16.04.14).
Prince William, joined by his wife Duchess Catherine, is scheduled to walk the grounds of the facility in Porirua - which was opened by his father the Prince of Wales over 30 years ago - as part of their 10 day tour of New Zealand.
Commissioner Mike Bush told The New Zealand Herald newspaper: "We have much to be proud of in New Zealand police and it is a great honour and privilege to host the Duke and Duchess."
Serving members of the No25 HRH Prince of Wales Cadet Wing, who participated in the opening of the college on April 1, 1981, will be in attendance tomorrow (16.04.14).
Some of the very same cadets delivered a gym display involving tossing telephone poles, forming a human pyramid and strength and agility tests while balancing on a beam during the ceremony in 1981, but the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are to be presented with more modern displays of policing.
Superintendent Barry Taylor, who participated in the visit by Prince Charles, said: "I remember that day very clearly and the pride which our cadet wing all felt ... I'm looking forward to seeing the Duke and Duchess, but I must say I'm glad we don't have to do a repeat of that gym routine we put on for the Prince of Wales."

Britain’s Queen approves of Buckingham Palace stamps

Britain's Queen Elizabeth has given her approval to a new collection of Royal Mail stamps.
The 87-year-old royal has given the go ahead to the Royal Mail to release a new a set of stamps that feature scenes from Buckingham Palace, as painted by artist Chris Draper.
Royal Mail spokesman Andrew Hammond said: "Buckingham Palace is a source of pride to the nation. It forms a huge part of our heritage so it is fitting that Royal Mail has been able to dedicate a stamp to the most famous of addresses."
The collection of ten stamps includes six watercolours showing the exterior of Buckingham Palace - which has been the official London residence of the sovereign since 1837 - and a miniature sheet of four more which feature pictures of ornate locations within the 775-room building.
The four smaller stamps are paintings of the Throne Room, the Blue Drawing Room, the Grand Staircase and the Green Drawing room, and as each stamp is sent to the Palace for the Queen's approval, it is clear she is fond of the designs.
The royal-themed stamps will cost the same as the regular first, second and third class stamps which feature an image of the Queen's head.

Britain’s Prince George receives gift

Britain's Prince George received a gift from the wife of New Zealand's Prime Minister John Key yesterday (14.04.14).
The 8-month-old son of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge - who is currently on his first royal tour in New Zealand - was gifted with a Hairy Maclary 'touch and feel' book by Bronagh Key, who is ambassador for the Blind Foundation charity.
Prime Minister John Key, his wife Bronagh and son Max were dining with the royal couple last night, and although there was no formal exchange of gifts, Mrs Key passed the book - which is designed for visually impaired children - on to Duchess Catherine at the request of the Blind Foundation.
Mr Key told The New Zealand Herald newspaper: "She seemed very pleased with it.
"I don't want to overstate things but I do sort of feel I know them [the Duke and Duchess] well now. We've had a considerable amount of time together. The three visits to New Zealand by Prince William, obviously their wedding, and we caught up in Balmoral. So it really was just convivial."
The Prime Minister also stated that his dinner guests appeared to be "really pleased" to be visiting New Zealand.
The royal couple are set to leave for Australia tomorrow (16.04.14) afternoon after visiting the Royal New Zealand Police College.
