Mark Shand's nephew has paid tribute to his heroic uncle.
Ben Elliot - son of Duchess Camilla's younger sister Annabel Elliot - took to Twitter to pay tribute to the conservationist who tragically died after hitting his head on a New York City pavement on Wednesday (23.04.14).
Ben wrote: "RIP my hero and uncle Mark Shand. We loved him so much. What a life."
Ben accompanied the tweet with a picture of Mark, who was 62, proudly holding his son - Mark's great-nephew.
He added: "Here he is with his great nephew, my son."
Ben also praised his uncle for his conservation efforts with elephants.
He wrote: "Mark did so much for the plight of the Asian elephant. Elephants never forget. Nor will we. (sic)"
Mark was rushed to hospital on Tuesday night (22.04.14) after hitting his head on a sidewalk in New York and passed away the next day.
Camilla, 66, is said to be "devastated" by the death of her brother.
In a statement, Clarence House said: "It is with deep sadness that we have to confirm that the Duchess of Cornwall's brother, Mark Shand, has today passed away in New York.
"The duchess, the Prince of Wales, and all her family members are utterly devastated by this sudden and tragic loss."

Britain's Prince William and Duchess Catherine took part in the Anzac Day dawn service in Australia today (25.04.14).
While the event wasn't part of their jam-packed itinerary, the royal couple opted to honour the Australian and New Zealand war dead at a special ceremony in the capital of Canberra on Friday before leaving the country to return home to Britain.
Duchess Catherine placed a posy near the tomb of the Unknown Soldier, as well as a handwritten message, which reads: "In every second of every day, you will be remembered for your courage and your bravery. Thank you for your sacrifice and for what you have done for us. For that, I am truly grateful."
Following the dawn service ceremony at the Australian War Memorial in Canberra, the royals planted an Aleppo Pine tree to mark the 99th anniversary of the warfare at Gallipoli during World War I. The tree is derived from seeds gathered after the battle of Lone Pine nearly 100 years ago.
Earlier this week, Prince William announced that he, his wife and brother Prince Harry will attend the 100th anniversary of Anzac Day in Gallipoli, Turkey, next year.

Britain's Prince William and Duchess Catherine hope to return to Australia.
The royal couple, and their nine-month-old son Prince George, flew home today (25.04.14) following a bustling 11-day tour of Australia and New Zealand, and they have expressed their great hope to visit again.
Speaking at a reception held at Parliament House in Canberra yesterday (24.04.14), William said: "We greatly look forward to coming back. And when we do return, it will be to marvel again at all that Australia is, and will yet become."
The special reception was hosted in honour of the couple by Australian prime minister Tony Abbott, a well-known royalist, who paid tribute to the couple and hopes to build a long-lasting friendship with the royals.
Tony said he hopes to one day welcome the couple's son, baby George, to Australia as king.
He said in his address: "Many decades hence, when a currently unknowable Australian Prime Minister welcomes your son, King George VII to this building, that will be a sign of the stability and the continuity in the life of our nation."

Graham Norton is too "lazy" to replace Sir Bruce Forsyth on 'Strictly Come Dancing'.
The chat show host is one of the hot favourites for the presenting gig following the veteran presenter's decision to quit the BBC One primetime show, but he has now confirmed he isn't up for the challenge because it would be too much hard work.
He insisted he already has his hands full with hosting 'The Graham Norton' show every Friday evening and his Radio 2 show on Saturday mornings.
Graham told The Sun newspaper: "I wouldn't jump at the chance. I really enjoy the show but it's a very tough gig. I think it's very hard for a new person to take over, and I'm quite lazy.
"It would be a bit weird to also be on Saturday night and Sunday night."
The flamboyant presenter is convinced producers will promote current co-hosts Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman rather than looking elsewhere for fresh blood.
He says: "If they just stick with Tess and Claudia then I think that's the sensible way forward. I think as a tried-and-tested duo they're great and work really well together.
"But if they did want someone new then the advantage is that it's a show that's up and running so whoever wants to present it will know whether they like it or not.
"It's much harder to go into a new format where you don't know what it's like."
Claudia was recently said to be the "first choice" to take over from Bruce after impressing bosses on the celebrity dance contest with her on-screen chemistry with Tess on the Sunday evening results show.

James Lock is set to be axed from 'The Only Way Is Essex'.
The reality star was catapulted to the spotlight after he joined the show in 2013 alongside his best friend Dan Osborne, but after being charged with the possession of drugs following a fallout with a cab driver in Essex in February, it is unlikely that he'll remain on the ITV2 reality show.
A source told the Daily Mirror newspaper: "James will be understandably disappointed. But he is looking forward to clearing his name in court."
James - also known as Lockie - is due to appear before a magistrates court in June after he was held on suspicion of criminal damage and possession of class A drugs, before it was downgraded to class C, and it is believed the charge relates to the horse tranquilliser ketamine.
The lothario had a key storyline in the last series of 'TOWIE' after he was a caught in a cheating scandal that rocked his relationship with Danielle Armstrong.
The pair were recently pictured in Marrakech, Morocco, and it seems they were in the midst of an argument.
James surprised Danielle with tickets to the exotic country in the eleventh series finale earlier this month as he tried to win her back and show how sorry he was.

Terry Alderton will leave 'EastEnders' later this year.
The actor-and-comedian, who plays Bianca Butcher's love interest Terry Spraggan, has been written out of the BBC One soap following actress Patsy Palmer's decision to quit her famous role.
Terry confirmed the news on his Twitter account, writing: "So, I'm leaving EastEnders in July :@( unfortunately Patsy leaving has changed things in the story. It's very sad but it's been a great ride (sic)"
Patsy, 41, shocked soap bosses last month by announcing her decision to leave the show in the autumn.
The actress is expected to move to Los Angeles with her four children in a bid to launch a Hollywood career.
Following Terry's announcement, fans of the stand-up comic - who joined 'EastEnders' last September and debuted on-screen in November - have flooded soap bosses with messages lobbying for his character to be saved.
Terry wrote: "So so moved by the mass of twitter comments re leaving. I've also heard that EE have been jammed with protest which is nice. So thank you! (sic)"
He later added: "I'm loving the #SaveTerry x (sic)"

Gareth Gates worries 'The Big Reunion' boy bands may corrupt 3T.
The American group - which consists of the late King of Pop Michael Jackson's nephews Taj, Taryll and TJ - will tour the UK later this year with British bands such as Blue, 5ive, Damage and more, and 5th Story star Gareth admits it will be a culture shock for the well-spoken Americans to share a tour bus with the rowdy Brit bands.
He exclusively told BANG Showbiz: "I'm a little bit worried about them being on this tour. They're very ... no drinking, no swearing, no anything. They're going to get a real shocker!"
5ive's Sean Conlon added: "It might be a culture clash."
Quizzed if the British bands may "corrupt" their American counterparts, Blue's Antony Costa quipped: "I hope not, you can't corrupt a Jackson!"
Meanwhile, Antony admits he can't wait to meet 3T so he can pick their brains for stories about their legendary uncle.
He said: "I just want to sit there and listen to stories. I know it's really sad, but you've got to ask ... it'll be really hard not to, especially two weeks on the road."
With numerous boy bands sharing a tour bus, Sean is eager to avoid ego clashes and admits he is often surprised by how humble other stars can be.
He explained: "One thing I've learned from the last 'Big Reunion' tour, you can't judge a book by its cover. Duncan from Blue, I didn't think I'd get on with him. He was looking at me like I'm an alien, I thought he was an alien, but two or three days in, we really clicked."
